Die Routen (auf Englisch)

  • A few kilometers from Villa Centoni (4 km), don´t miss the San Martino village where you can admire the oldest oak in Europe.
  • Nearby Villa Centoni (5 km): the town of Altopascio, the first hospital in the Middle Ages, as evidenced by the intact tower on which a fire was fed to guide the pilgrims along the Via Francigena. Now the town is national center for bread-making (the famous Tuscan unsalty bread, suitable for preparing bruschetta and soup).
  • A short distance from Villa Centoni (6 km): visit the famous Pinocchio Park in Collodi, an ideal trip for parents and children, and understand and study the "story of the puppet Pinocchio"; then the Villa Garzoni with its garden in Renaissance style and the Butterfly House tropical garden.
  • At 8 km: Pescia. Its borgo and piazza offer folklore events in medieval costumes. Pescia is also the commercial center of international floriculture. Following the lively stream with the same name, Pescia offers unspoilt nature and indigenous products known throughout the world as the Sorana beans, the extraction and processing of the "pietra serena" (a dark grey sandstone used for colums and stairs) in Vellano, the paper museum in Pietrabuona.
  • On the green plain of Capannori (10 km) the beautiful villas recount the historical events of this cultural and artistic territory (Villa Reale, Villa Mansi, Villa Torrigiani).
  • At 15 km, Montecatini Terme, an elegant spa town, is ideal for relaxation (the spa, as well as the cultural and social events taking place there).
  • At 15 Km from Villa Centoni: Lucca medieval walls framed in the shadow of century-old trees offer pleasant walks and bike tours. Inside the Walls, the Cathedral of San Martino, the Ducal Palace, San Michele Square with its church, the Clock Tower, the Guinigi Tower, the characteristic Amphitheater Square and the elegant Via Fillungo. Do not miss Puccini´s house-museum and the many musical events, as well as the local specialties like the buccellato (sweet bread with raisins and aniseeds), the tordelli (pasta filled with meat), the torte coi becchi (rice cakes).
  • To the north of Lucca lies the Garfagnana valley, an area of considerable interest, where you can visit the Devil´s Bridge at Borgo a Mozzano, the Wind Cave in Fornovolasco and the Hermitage of Calomini both near Gallicano, and the Orecchiella Natural Park.
  • At about 30 km from Villa Centoni is Viareggio, the bustling seaside resort with its Liberty-style waterfront and its wide pinewood with games for parents and children. From here the Versilia coastline begins, with its beaches of thin sand for an elite tourism, until you get as far as Forte dei Marmi. Not to be missed "La Versiliana", that is the Versiliana park in Marina di Pietrasanta, home of the poet G. D´Annunzio, now a worldly posh get-together for writers and journalists.
  • A short distance from Villa Centoni (20 km): Pisa, with the Piazza dei Miracoli, the Baptistry and the Leaning Tower. Nearby: Calci with the famous Certosa (Carthusian monastery) and the largest European museum of Natural Science; Vinci and the museum of genius Leonardo; San Gimignano and its towers; Volterra and the Etruscan ruins; Siena and the historic Palio of Siena (The Palio is a horse race which takes place in a number of Italian towns, the most famous being the "Palio di Siena", where the different districts of Siena compete).
  • At 30 km to the north-east lies Pistoia, with the daily medieval market and its international jazz scene. Renowned for its beautiful roses.
  • At 50 km from Villa Centoni: Florence, the cradle of art, of culture and of "Made in Italy".
